Basically, the USB 3.0 G-Drives are available in several variants, namely the G-Drive Mini, Slim, and Mobile. Well, as for storage space, the drives are available from 1TB to up to a whopping 8TB. If you think solar-powered supercomputers are pretty far-fetched, then perhaps you ought to think again. Apparently, Michael Larabel has created a cluster of ARM microprocessors which is powered by solar energy. His creation includes a cluster of 48 PandaBoards, or also known as OMAP 4460-powered boards, which in return would contain 96 cores running at 1.2GHz each.

Previously, Michael Larabel created a 12-core PandaBoard-based mini-cluster, and his latest creation of a 96-core juggernaut would definitely dwarf his previous achievements. Nevertheless, the 96-core machine consumes approximately 200 watts of power, which is niftily supplied by the solar panel strapped to a hand-truck. Well, benchmarking results aren’t out yet, but I’m guessing a 96-core monster would definitely be a speedy machine, don’t you think?
